    Hi Guys + Girls,

    i need a hair shader für 3dsmax. Please can a Maya User upload a HAIR MDL-Shader that i can test in 3dsmax.

    Hi Christoph,

    i have read the treads, but i donīt understand the Shadertree of Maya, and we have not the same Maps in 3dsmax. Itīs very cool if we can help to have a Hair MDL Shader für 3dsmax. Second at this time i use Geometry of Hairs and a iray Material. In mental ray i can use mr primitive, that save Memory. Can we have the same in 3dsmax? Hair is more and more important for Interior Renderings, Carpets, animal skins, fluffy fabrics e.g. Scarves etc ..

    Hi Thorsten,

    you don't need to understand the Maya shading tree. The example Thomas posted is MDL, so in theory it should work in 3ds Max as well. So far I understand it is build to apply it on geometry.

    Hi Thmoas,

    i have donwload the file and save as \ifmHairPolygons.mdl, but i canīt Import the mdl-file. 3dsmax give me a error mesage.


    Failed to load Material "E:\bibliothek\mdl\ifmHairPolygons.mdl"



    What do i wrong?

    Edit: Ok i must delete the line import ifm::*; than itīs loading, but i see no Hairīs !

    edit 2: oh all is working, is must set the thiknessu to 10.

    Hi Thorsten,

    I don't know how Iray for 3dsmax handles MDL imports ...

    But ifmHairPolygon.mdl relies on the mdls inside Iray for Maya. This means you need ifm.mdl, which is part of NVIDIA's MDL Exchange Package. Is this installed?

    Thsnk you thomas. All is now working. Please look at my "Edits" in the last posting. I must only delete a line. Iray donīt supports mr primitive only mesh geometrie. I hope that come in the future.
